Is organic food safe from salmonella?

Fancy Pants asked:

With all the scares now a days w/ everyday food falling subject to salmonella poisoning, I was wondering if organic foods are safe.

Organic means that no chemicals or pesticides were used. Salmonella can still get to it if it’s handled by someone infected w/it.

Organic foods are safe from pesticides and growth hormones, not salmonella.

Any food be it fruit, veggie, meat or snack could be infected by salmonella whether it was grown in contaminated soil or there was cross contamination somewhere in between.

This is why I grow my own fruits and veggies.
